Deer Management in North Lincolnshire

North Lincolnshire holds three distinct landscapes inside one area. The Isle of Axholme around Epworth is flat, drained fenland, reclaimed from marsh centuries ago and farmed hard ever since. The Ancholme valley and the low limestone edge near Brigg and Kirton in Lindsey rise gently by comparison, and the Humber bank villages, Barton, Winteringham, Winterton, sit on ground that's different again.

The Axholme fenland

Hedgerows and woodland are scarce across the Isle of Axholme, which was drained specifically to be farmed rather than left wild, so any deer using this ground tend to concentrate around the few dykes, plantations, and field boundaries that still offer cover. New planting schemes here can be exposed for exactly that reason.

Along the Humber bank

Barton-upon-Humber, Winteringham, and Winterton sit close to the estuary, with a different mix of farmland, scrub, and older shelterbelts than the fenland further inland. Deer pressure along this stretch is worth assessing on its own terms rather than assuming it matches what's happening around Brigg or Scunthorpe.
