Deer Management in South Yorkshire
South Yorkshire covers ground that changes character within a few miles. Toward Penistone, Cawthorne, and Silkstone the land climbs into the Pennine fringe, old mining and textile villages set among steep fields and remnant woodland. East toward Doncaster, Bawtry, and Finningley it flattens into sandy, lighter farmland close to the Nottinghamshire border.

Regrown ground around Barnsley
A good deal of the woodland around Dodworth, Silkstone, and the wider Barnsley area has grown up on former colliery and industrial land over the past few decades, planted for amenity and restoration rather than commercial forestry. Young trees on this kind of ground are often less protected than they should be, since the planting predates any real thought about deer.
Sprotbrough and the Don valley
The limestone gorge around Sprotbrough, where the River Don cuts through, carries some of the more established woodland in the area, and deer move along that corridor more than the surrounding arable fields would suggest. It's worth factoring the river valley itself into any survey, not just the land directly affected.
