Deer Management in North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire is the core of where we work: the Vale of York's arable land, the fringes of the Dales, and the North York Moors around Helmsley and Pickering. It's also one of the most active areas in the country for new woodland creation, which means young plantations meeting real deer pressure almost as soon as they go in the ground.

What's actually on the land here
Roe deer are the constant across the county, in hedgerows, field margins, and woodland edges from Thirsk to Ripon. Fallow turn up around larger estate woodlands, particularly toward Harrogate and the Dales fringe, and muntjac numbers have been creeping north into the county in recent years. Knowing which of the three you're actually dealing with changes the height and spec of any fencing or guards you'd put in.
Woodland creation and grant-funded planting
With woodland creation schemes active across the Vale of York and the Ryedale and Helmsley area, a lot of new planting here happens under grant funding, which makes the deer evidence behind an application matter more, not less. See our Grants & Funding page if that's the situation you're in.
